Trekking Around Kuang Si Waterfall

  • Destinations: Luang Prabang
  • Duration: 1 day
  • Type: Daytrips, Minorities, Nature, Trekking

After 1 hour drive into the hills west of Luang Prabang, the trek starts with a visit of the Khmu village of Ban Longlao Nung. Close by lies the Hmong village Ban Longlao Song. You can observe the life styles of these two culturally very different minority groups. Despite these differences, the villagers work together and share the same school. Leaving this rural setting, the trail leads along rice fields and vegetable gardens before reaching the wooded mountains with some steeper parts. A cave is explored on the way, which served as a bomb shelter for the villagers living in this valley during the Second Indochina War. One more hour of trekking takes you to the crystal clear water of just one of the springs that feed the Kuang Xi waterfall: a beautiful pool full of big sacred fish. After descending from the top of the waterfall, a Lao-style lunch is served in a lush setting. The afternoon is spent bathing and relaxing in the turquoise pools below and visiting the young bears living in a sanctuary close to the entrance gate, before we transfer you back to Luang Prabang 1 hour.
